““If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place.” – Nora Roberts
Eleanor Marie Robertson or commonly known as Nora Roberts (1950 – present) is a bestselling author of romance, suspense, and fantasy novels. She has written more than 209 books since the publication of her first novel “Irish Thoroughbred” in 1981. She was the first author to be inducted into the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame.
Eleanor is one of today’s prolific bestselling writers. She is best known as Nora Roberts but she has also written under other pseudonyms like Jill March, Sarah Hardesty, and J.D. Robb. Recently, under the pen name J.D. Robb, she has released another bestselling suspense thriller as part of the “In Death” series that started in 1995.
Raised in a family of avid readers, she has been keen on books ever since. But writing came later in life when she was already a mother of two at the age of 29. Like most writers, she was repeatedly rejected until Silhouette, a new publisher in 1980, published her first novel in 1981. Although not as highly successful as her later works, her debut novel “Irish Thoroughbred” was reprinted multiple times and was repackaged as a stand-alone romance because of its popularity.
Like other female writers like Toni Morrison and J.K. Rowling, Roberts didn’t let motherhood and rejection get in the way of her goals. To quote Eleanor Roosevelt: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
